How to look learned

These are just a few words to stop misspelling.  Add to the list:

Stationary and Stationery

I see this misspelled every day, sometimes three or four times a day. Nothing says I am smart more than seeing someone else mis-use or misspell these words. And nothing says ignorance when I read these words used incorrectly.

So, let’s review:

Stationary refers to something that does not move. This might include a stationary exercise bicycle. Or a statue.

Stationery refers to paper, cards and notes used for communication. This might include stationery – personal stationery such as a note card, calling card, EnvElopE or other printed materials.

The difference is the A and the E. It separates the educated from the not so learned.

To help you remember – so you appear learned: Think stationery, the paper, letterhead as E, as in Envelope. Or business.
